McDonald’s petition to change the Oxford English Dictionary’s definition of a McJob, run by the ‘Senior Vice President’ of the company, and I’m always being told management isn’t easy and involves a lot of work…
The fast-food giant (literally :P) claims that it’s jobs are “challenging and rewarding” - I mean hey, serving customers; phew, tiresome work full of surprises and challenges! And as for the rewards, they might leave one of those promotional stickers behind…so…wait for it…you could enter yourself into one of those AWESOME PRIZE DRAWS! You know, the ones where you can win all sorts of stuff! Oh wait, I’m pretty sure you can’t enter those if you’re an employee of McDonald’s. Damn, just as I was getting my hopes high!
But it’s not all a waste of time. McDonald’s do have a point…I guess: “The current definition is extremely insulting to the 67,000 people who work for us within the UK,” said McDonald’s senior vice president David Fairhurst.
Last year, McD’s (McDonald’s getting too long to type out each and every single time, oh the pain…) came up with the slogan: “McProspects - over half of our executive team started in our restaurants. Not bad for a McJob.” Quite similar to British Gas’ advert claiming that many of their managers started out as over-worked boiler doctors/technicians or whatever you call them. So, is a McJob really the way forward?
Who knows? At least you get free food [I’d hope] (If not, you could always sneak a few chips and a burger out without them noticing) …
I think I’ve grilled, or rather fried (haha), the fast food giant enough, just to make sure I don’t get sued for discrimination or anything, here’s a link if you want to sign the ‘Change the Definition’ petition for some strange reason…
[…] the theory to myself, what is probably one of my most entertaining posts (Get off your butt and go get yourself a McJob!) was written a week before some of my most important exams (GCSE’s for those of you are up to […]
